An allegedly intoxicated driver was injured when the person crashed his or her vehicle into a tree while fleeing police in Mission Hills early Sunday morning, the Los Angeles Police Department said.

Officers were pursuing the suspect at about 4 a.m. when the vehicle struck a tree in the area of Chatsworth Street and Arleta Avenue, LAPD said.

The driver, who has not been identified, was taken to a hospital in serious condition, police said.

Video from the scene shows a silver sedan with its front hood almost wrapped around a tree trunk.

Officers can be seen working in the area of the crash site, which was closed off with police tape.

No further details were immediately available.

Correction: An earlier version of this article incorrectly included details from another incident, stating a person had died in the crash. In the second crash, a woman in her 50s was killed when her vehicle was struck by a hit-and-run driver at Balboa Boulevard and Lassen Street in Northridge. A suspect was arrested in that second incident. The story above, on the Mission Hills crash, has been updated.
