The crash occurred at 25th Street East and Lancaster Boulevard (map) around 6:45 p.m., according to Lt. Wayne with the Lancaster Sheriff’s Station.

The person who was killed was in a red van, Wayne said. That person’s identity was not immediately released.

Six of the injured were also in the van, according to Wayne.

Several of those injured were children, and they were “badly injured,” the Los Angeles County Fire Department tweeted.

Four or five children had to be airlifted to hospitals, another tweet from fire officials stated. Their conditions were not immediately known.

The cause of the crash was under investigation.
