One person was killed and a police officer suffered a hand wound Friday morning in a shooting in a residential area of Inglewood, authorities said.

Officers responded about 3 a.m. to a radio call of a person screaming near the intersection of Doty Avenue and Imperial Highway (map), according to a statement from the Inglewood Police Department.

The shooting occurred after the officers arrived. One of them “sustained a gunshot wound to his hand and the suspect was mortally wounded,” the statement said.

The injured officer was transported to a hospital and listed in stable condition.

Police detectives and the department’s internal affairs division are investigating the shooting.
