Two people were killed Thursday afternoon in a violent collision at an intersection in Lancaster.

The crash occurred just before 3 p.m. at the intersection of 50th Street E. and Avenue J.

A Honda was heading northbound on 50th at a high rate of speed when it ran a stop sign and struck a Toyota Corolla, according to Sgt. Eric Metten with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

The Corolla had just completed a four-way stop and was proceeding into the intersection on Avenue J when it was hit, Metten said.

The impact knocked the Corolla into the desert, killing both occupants.

No one in the Honda was seriously injured, according to Metten.

The cause of the crash was still being investigated.
