Elderly Couple Killed in Santa Clarita House Fire

A husband and wife died following a fire at their Santa Clarita home on Saturday morning, authorities said. The fire was first reported at 11:42 a.m. in the 28900 block of Flowerpark Drive, Los Angeles County Fire Department Dispatch Supervisor Bernard Peters said. Someone called 911 from the house to report it was on fire. Firefighters arrived to find heavy smoke emanating from the home’s attic, he said. Two injured people were soon found, according to Peters. A woman in her late-70s was pronounced dead at the scene, Los Angeles County Sheriffs Department Deputy Edmo Luna said. The woman’s husband, described as a man in his early-80s, was rushed to a hospital in cardiac arrest, officials said. He, too, ultimately succumbed to his injuries The cause of the fire remained under investigation, fire officials said. No further details were available.
