2 sought in man’s death outside rooftop bar in West Hollywood

Local news

Authorities on Friday are searching for two people suspected in the death of a man outside a rooftop bar in West Hollywood overnight.

The incident was reported about 12:30 a.m. outside the trendy EP + LP at the corner of Melrose Avenue and La Cienega Boulevard, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

Deputies received a call regarding a fight in the area Lt. Derrick Alfred said.

Los Angeles police officers were flagged down before the deputies arrived and discovered a victim down on the ground, Alfred said.

Investigators determined the victim had been assaulted by a man and a woman who fled the scene northbound on La Cienega Boulevard.

The victim, identified by the county coroner as 49-year-old Luis Vega, died in an ambulance at the scene, Alfred said.

He had suffered blunt force trauma to the head and was possibly stomped or kicked repeatedly in the head at some point during the attack, Alfred said.

It was unclear what led up to the altercation but all of the people involved were apparently at the nearby rooftop bar at some point during the evening, he said.

A manager for the lounge told KTLA the attackers and victim were all at restaurant, but there was no interaction between them until they were out on the street.

Investigators are searching the area for surveillance images and witnesses.

No description of the suspects was given by authorities.
