Four men and a woman have been arrested on suspicion of murder in the death of a Perris man found slain in a creek bed in San Juan Capistrano, Orange County Sheriff’s Department announced Friday.

Alvaro Rios, 38, was identified as the man whose body was discovered July 13 in a creek bed at the dead-end of Trabuco Creek Road, according to a sheriff’s news release.

He was reported missing the same day his body was found with traumatic injuries. A passer-by discovered the body, sheriff’s Lt. Mark Stichter said at a news conference Friday.

An autopsy determined he was a homicide victim, and his injuries were consistent with being stabbed, the release stated.

After search warrants were served in vehicles and homes in southern Orange County, five people were arrested:

  • Ashkan Dezhangfard, 22, of San Juan Capistrano
  • Ryan Huebnar, 20, of Laguna Niguel
  • Siavish Hosseinaliarhani, 18, of Laguna Niguel
  • Angelica Shiabata, 28, of San Juan Capistrano
  • Brion Hyde, 22, of San Juan Capistrano

“Really solid hard work” led to the group of five, and investigators gained enough probable cause evidence to obtain search and arrest warrants, Stichter said.

All five are being held on $1 million bail and are expected to appear in court Monday. They are being held on suspicion of murder and conspiracy.

Investigators are still trying to determine the connections between the suspects, Stichter said.

There was a relationship between the victim and one of the suspects, the lieutenant said.

“We’re still trying to focus in on exactly what the nature is of that relationship,” he said.
