A 7-year-old girl was killed in a crash involving a Tesla along the 405 Freeway in Seal Beach Monday morning, and a man was arrested on suspicion of DUI, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The crash was reported about 9:20 a.m. along the northbound side of the highway just north of Seal Beach Boulevard.

The driver of an SUV swerved into the carpool lane for an unknown reason.

The SUV struck a Tesla Model S, forcing the Tesla to hit the back of another car that was also in the carpool lane, the CHP reported.

A 7-year-old girl who was sitting in the back seat was fatally injured, officials said. Her 13-year-old sister and her 49-year-old father both suffered major injuries and were taken to Long Beach Memorial Hospital.

A CHP officer looking for a possible a suspected DUI vehicle matching the description of the SUV encountered the crash and the driver, Adam Kanas, was arrested.

Kanas, 36, of San Clemente, was booked into Orange County jail on suspicion of driving under the influence, officials said.

The driver of the other car involved did not appear to be injured in the crash.
