One person was taken into custody Monday following an hours-long standoff at an apartment building in Pasadena.

Police surrounded the building in the 70 block of Harkness Avenue after reports that an armed person had barricaded themselves inside one of the units.

Residents were evacuated from the building and a SWAT team was responding, according to a news release from the Pasadena Police Department that was posted online shortly before 8 a.m.

Four officers could be seen with guns drawn on an apartment from the rooftop of a neighboring building, aerial video over the scene showed.

The response was prompted after an armed person inside one of the units refused to exit the structure, according to the release.

Authorities eventually talked a man into coming out of the apartment and took him into custody, Hettema confirmed at about noon.

The incident was related to a robbery that had been reported in the area earlier in the morning at around 5 a.m., according to Pasadena police Lt. Hettema.

No other details about the robbery were released by police.

Traffic was restricted between Colorado Boulevard to the south and Walnut Street to the north during the standoff.
