A driver was injured in an early morning crash that sent an SUV through a South Whittier area family’s yard Friday.

The crash occurred about 1:30 a.m. near the intersection of Florence Avenue and Carmenita Road on the border of Santa Fe Springs and South Whittier, the California Highway Patrol’s traffic incident log.

A Ford Explorer involved in the crash ended up in an alleyway behind a nearby residence after cutting through the lawn, narrowly missing the home and then crashing through a fence, video from the scene showed.

The driver was taken from the scene in an ambulance.

“The car was beat up and so was he,” said D. Gamboa, who told KTLA the Ford Explorer struck his vehicle in the intersection after the driver ran a red light.

“He came out of nowhere at a high rate of speed,” Gamboa said.

Police are still investigating the cause of the crash and have not confirmed any details.
