A suspect was in custody after four people were shot, at least one of them fatally, on Thursday evening in a residential area of Rowland Heights, authorities said.
Deputies responded about 8:30 p.m. to a report of gunshots in the 2200 block of Batson Avenue, according to Lt. John Saleeby of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
A supervisor with the Los Angeles County Fire Department said firefighter-paramedics were also called to the location, where four people were struck by gunfire.
A man was pronounced dead at the scene and a second person was possibly deceased after the shooting, the Sheriff’s Department said. The condition of the wounded victims was unknown.
News video showed Fire Department personnel performing CPR on a man outside a home on Batson Avenue. An ambulance was parked nearby, but it was unclear how many people were transported to the hospital.
In a news release, the Sheriff’s Department said a suspect was in custody and homicide investigators were at the scene. Neither the suspect nor the victims were identified by name.
