Authorities on Saturday were searching for a suspect who allegedly stabbed a man to death near Whittier after an argument over an ex-girlfriend.

George Delgado, 53, was being sought in connection with the killing of Tyrone Duran, 43, who was fatally wounded in front of a home in the 13500 block of Trumball Avenue, according to a news release from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

Deputies responded to a report of an “assault with a knife” at the residence about 7:30 a.m., the statement said. They arrived to find Duran lying on the front lawn, suffering from a stab wound.

The victim was transported to a hospital where he was pronounced dead, the Sheriff’s Department said.

Witnesses told investigators that Duran and Delgado knew each other and had been “hanging out” at the location when an argument between the two men “escalated into a fistfight.”

During the altercation, apparently sparked by a dispute over Delgado’s former girlfriend, the suspect allegedly stabbed Duran with a folding knife, according to the statement.

The weapon was recovered at the scene, authorities said.

Delgado remained at large Saturday evening.

Anyone with information about his whereabouts or the killing was asked to call the sheriff’s Homicide Bureau at 323-890-5500. Anonymous tips can be made via Crime Stoppers: 800-222-8477.
