A driver is in custody after crashing in Hawthorne during a wild pursuit Thursday morning.

Sky5 was over the incident just after 7 a.m. as the vehicle being pursued by authorities had come to a stop at the intersection of Crenshaw Boulevard and West El Segundo Boulevard.

The driver had his hands visible and appeared to be ready to surrender when the vehicle took off and officers resumed the pursuit.

The driver eventually stopped again, this time as he was stuck in traffic at a red light.

Authorities got out of their vehicles and waited for the driver to surrender but the car took off again as the light turned green.

While the driver was traveling southbound on Prairie Avenue, he hit a curb and lost control.

The vehicle careened into a silver Honda and finally came to a stop.

A woman exited the wrecked Honda and made her way to authorities for safety. Her condition was not immediately known.

Officers then approached the pursuit vehicle with weapons drawn.

The driver was removed and taken into custody just before 7:30 a.m.

A knife found at the scene could be seen on top of the car as police searched the vehicle.

Emergency personnel at the scene were treating the unidentified driver. The extent of his injuries are unknown.
