A driver is in custody after leading police on a high-speed pursuit on the 5 Freeway through Santa Clarita Friday morning.

The incident began about 4:30 a.m. when the driver of a speeding pickup truck refused to pull over, California Highway Patrol Officer Patrick Kimball said.

Sky5 got over the pursuit as the driver was headed northbound on the 5 Freeway near the 210 Freeway.

The driver was traveling at a high rate of speed and appeared to have turned off the vehicle’s headlights at one point during the pursuit.

Sky5 tracked the chase for about 30 minutes through Santa Clarita and into Castaic but had to turn back due to flying dangers and poor signal issues.

The driver eventually stopped at Smokey Bear Road but refused to come out of the pickup truck, Kimball said.

Authorities took the driver into custody about 6:49 a.m. without injury.

KTLA’s Alexis Lewis and Alberto Mendez contributed to this report.
