Authorities were searching for a suspected burglar in the San Gabriel River Wednesday after a pursuit came to an end in Pico Rivera.
Aerial video showed authorities chasing a silver SUV on the southbound 605 Freeway at about 12:45 p.m.
The driver exited the freeway a short time later and then took a dirt road where authorities continued to follow him.
Eventually, the SUV came to a stop on the dirt road near Whittier Boulevard and one person exited the driver’s side door before running into heavy brush in a covered area of the San Gabriel River.
Authorities with guns drawn were seen searching the area.
But more than two hours later, the man still had not emerged from the river bed, and it was believed he may have entered a large tunnel system.
