The car was seen traveling at high speeds on both freeways and surface streets in the East L.A. area at around 10 p.m., at times blowing through red lights.

The chase ended about half an hour later after the vehicle slammed into an SUV in a downtown L.A. intersection.

The driver of the Mercedes-Benz fled on foot, but police and California Highway Patrol officers ultimately detained him near the Chinatown Gold Line Station.

The car involved in the pursuit had been reported stolen, Los Angeles Police Department officials said.
