Driver evades capture after pursuit on surface streets, freeways in L.A. area

Authorities pursued a blue Honda in the Los Angeles area for traffic violations on Friday, but the driver appeared to have evaded capture.

The pursuit began around 12:30 p.m. when the California Highway Patrol attempted to pull the driver over for crossing over the double yellow lines and being a solo driver in the HOV lane of the westbound 10 Freeway near Francisquito Avenue in the Baldwin Park area, officials told KTLA.

Video from Sky5 showed the driver on and off surface streets and freeways near Dodger Stadium and on the northbound 101 Freeway in the Hollywood area.

The Los Angeles Police Department took over the pursuit just after 1 p.m.

The driver was forced to slow down in some traffic areas, but was also seen driving at high rates of speed, driving on the wrong side of the road, blowing through stop signs and committing unsafe lane changes, aerial video showed.

At one point, the pursuit suspect was seen stopping the car in the street and briefly talking to another motorist who had stopped on the street. The driver was also seen narrowly missing pedestrian in a crosswalk.

LAPD moved into tracking mode around 1:30 p., but the pursuit driver continued to be followed by a CHP helicopter for a short time before it stopped.

The driver appeared to have evaded being caught.
