Witnesses had called authorities Tuesday after finding what appeared to be bones near a hiking trail, the Burbank Leader reported.

The area near Stough Canyon Nature Center — in the Verdugo Mountains at the end of Walnut Avenue (map) — was closed off while police and Los Angeles County coroner’s officials investigated Wednesday, the Burbank Police Department stated in a tweet Wednesday morning.

The investigation had been completed by about 10:30 a.m., according to another tweet.

Police were awaiting investigation from the coroner’s office.
