Boy, 12, Injured After Suspected Drunk Driver Crashes Through Park Fence in Azusa

A 12-year-old boy was injured when a suspected drunk driver crashed through a park fence in Azusa over the weekend.

The incident occurred about 7:18 p.m. Sunday at Zacatecas Park in the 900 block of West First Street, according to a news release from the Azusa Police Department.

A Mitsubishi Eclipse, allegedly being driven by 28-year-old Eduardo Castillo, went through a chain link fence before slamming into a tree and getting stuck in some shrubbery.

The boy was playing near the crash scene and was struck by debris from the collision, the Police Department stated.

The 12-year-old was taken to a local hospital to be treated for moderate injuries, according to the news release.

Several bystanders detained Castillo until police arrived and took him into custody.

Castillo appeared to be under the influence of alcohol and was arrested on suspicion of felony DUI, the Police Department stated.

He was being held on $100,000 bail and was scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday, according to the Police Department.
