Travis Stratton was reported missing 1 p.m., when he left his home in the 32500 block of The Old Road (map), the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Santa Clarita Valley Station stated on Twitter.

Surveillance video obtained by KTLA showed the boy wandering away from his home. Ten minutes later, his adopted grandparents were seen on the video searching for him.

The boy was later found in a pool behind a nearby home, the Department stated in a tweet.

Patrol cars responded to a home on Black Oak Lane, near the address given by the Sheriff’s Department, aerial video from Sky5 showed.

Yellow caution tape was set up around the home, which had a backyard pool, aerial video showed.

“Some of our Santa Clarita Valley sheriff’s station deputies jumped into the pool once he was located, pulled the 4-year-old from the pool, and he was transported to an awaiting Sheriff’s Department helicopter,” sheriff’s spokesman Deputy Joshua Durbin said.

Travis was flown to Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead, authorities said.

Homicide detectives planned to conduct a thorough investigation, Durbin said.
