The incident occurred about 2 a.m. on the freeway just east of Peck Road, said CHP Officer Tony Polizzi.

Two CHP officers had stopped on the right shoulder of the freeway to talk to another driver in a separate matter, he said.

At some point, a minivan and a dark Mitsubishi Eclipse were involved in a collision, causing the minivan to hit the patrol car before it overturned, Polizzi said. Neither of the CHP officers were hurt.
