A Marine who was found dead with a gunshot wound to the head at a shooting range on Camp Pendleton was identified Tuesday as Lance Cpl. Dominic E. Schraft from Vienna, Missouri.

The 19-year-old was discovered at approximately 6 a.m. on Monday at Marksmanship Training Range 214, according to a news release from the U.S. Marine Corps.

At the time of his death, Schraft was assigned to Battery R, 5th Battalion, 11th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, the release stated.

The incident was currently under investigation, and no further information was being released.

Schraft joined the Marine Corps just over a year ago and served as a field radio operator, according to the release. He never deployed during his career in the Marine Corps.

Schraft was awarded the National Defense Service medal and Global War on Terrorism Service medal.
