DNA evidence has led to the arrest of a man who allegedly raped a woman in Rowland Heights back in 2012, and investigators Monday asked for the public’s help finding other possible victims or witnesses.
The 29-year-old victim was in her apartment on the 1500 block of Jellick Avenue when she was awakened by an unknown Hispanic man who beat and raped her on Oct. 27, 2012, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
The Los Angeles County Special Victims Bureau began an investigation, which included DNA analysis by the sheriff’s department crime lab.
Investigators identified 26-year-old Pablo Reyes Bautista as a suspect after DNA recently entered into the FBI Combined DNA Index (CODIS) System resulted in a match.
Bautista, who previously lived in Rowland Heights, was booked on charges of rape, aggravated mayhem and burglary after sheriff’s deputies arrested him Saturday in Atwater Village.
Bautista was being held on $1 million bail and was scheduled to be arraigned on Tuesday.
