Two swimmers at a Ventura beach were rescued Thursday from dangerous rip currents — not by a lifeguard — but by a dog.

The dog’s owners said the 3-year-old Bernese mountain dog ran into the ocean after a couple started screaming for help.

Dave Mecham reports for the KTLA 5 News at 6 on Friday, March 20, 2015.

Correction: An earlier version of this post incorrectly described the breed of dog involved in the rescue. The report has been updated to reflect the change.
