CAMARILLO (KTLA) — An elderly driver struck and killed a 12-year-old boy who was riding a bicycle in Camarillo on Sunday afternoon.

The boy was riding without a helmet along the west side of Carmen Drive in Camarillo with two other bicyclists around 5:10 p.m. when he tried to cross the street, the Camarillo Police Department said.

Carolyn Skinner, 79, struck the boy with her 2000 Toyota Avalon, giving him life-threatening injuries.

The boy was transported to Los Robles Regional Medical Center, where he later died, authorities said.

The Camarillo Traffic Bureau is investigating the accident.
