A former teacher with the Ventura Unified School District faced charges after a child reported having “inappropriate interactions” with him, police said Friday.
Detectives began investigating 70-year-old Stephen Magoon — the boy’s tutor — after the victim reported the interactions, which he described as “being sexual in nature,” to a school resource officer, according to a Ventura Police Department news release.
The alleged incidents occurred last year, between January and October.
Investigators presented the case to the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office, and Magoon was charged with misdemeanor annoying or molesting a child on Aug. 31, police said.
Detectives believe Magoon — who works as a private tutor — may have had other “close relationships” with underage boys and are looking to identify any other possible victims.
Anyone who believes they were victimized by Magoon, or those who have additional information about the investigation, should call Ventura police Detective McCain at 805-339-4478.
