Graphic cellphone video showed the frantic aftermath of a car-to-car shooting in Rosemead on Tuesday and the efforts of rescuers to save the life of a young man fatally wounded in the attack.

The shooting was reported around 4:30 p.m. near the intersection of at Muscatel and Garvey avenues (map), according to Lt. Loy McBride with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

The victim was riding with his girlfriend, who wished to remain anonymous, in a black Infiniti when they stopped at a light on Garvey Avenue, she said.

A car with two men inside pulled up alongside the couple and asked the victim where he was from, the woman said.

He answered by saying, "nowhere."

The men then opened fire on the driver's side of the car, wounding her boyfriend, she said.

After being shot, the victim lost control of the car, which sped down Garvey Avenue, smashing into several cars before finally stopping at a convenience store.

A convenience store clerk immediately ran outside and began recording the scene on a cellphone.

On the video, the girlfriend's anguished cries could be heard, as she repeatedly screamed, "they shot him."

Rescue workers were also seen on the video working on the victim, who was identified by authorities only as a "young adult."

He was transported to a hospital where he was pronounced dead, McBride said.

The girlfriend said she ducked when the shooting started and was not hit.

After the shooting, the suspect's vehicle, described as dark-colored and mid-sized, made a U-turn and drove westbound down Garvey Avenue, according to a news release from the Sheriff's Department late Tuesday.

The young woman described the gunmen as young men, possibly teenagers, with shaved heads.

They remained at large Tuesday night.

Anyone with information was asked to contact the Sheriff's Department's Homicide Bureau at 323-890-5500.
