A father has been arrested after his 1-month-old son suffered a “catastrophic brain injury” and fell into a coma following an incident at their Loma Linda home, the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department said Saturday.
Christian Tressa, 23, was watching the infant and his 1-year-old son in the 11100 block of San Mateo Drive when the baby allegedly fell from a rocking bassinet, which was on top of an ottoman, on Sunday, Jan. 24, a Sheriff’s Department news release stated.
The victim had a visible bruise on his face the following morning, prompting Tressa to call the boy’s mother.
Although the mother wanted to take her child to the hospital, Tressa did not want to. They eventually took the baby to Loma Linda University Children’s Hospital that afternoon.
The boy had suffered “severe, multiple injuries,” and a “catastrophic brain injury” that were “inconsistent with a fall from a short distance,” according to the Sheriff’s Department.
He later fell into a coma.
Tressa was arrested on suspicion of felony child abuse involving great bodily injury resulting in a comatose state.
His bail was set at $500,000.
The man’s booking photo was not release because investigators believe there may be other victims or a serious threat to public safety, a Sheriff’s Department official said. Additional information was not provided.
