Firefighters were battling a small brush fire on Friday afternoon that was burning close to homes in Sherman Oaks.

The 2-acre fire was reported around 4:15 p.m. in the 14000 block of W. Deervale Place, according to Erik Scott with the Los Angeles Fire Department.

The fire was moving slowly in medium to heavy brush, Scott said.

Aerial video from Sky5 showed firefighters appeared to be making good progress on the blaze.

The fire was considered a knockdown at 5:30 p.m., but crews would remain on scene and helicopters would continue to make water drops, Scott said.

No homes were ever threatened due to firefighters quick efforts and proper brush clearance, according to Scott.
