Firefighters on Saturday extricated a female who had become trapped inside a chimney at a home in Riverside County, officials said.

Twenty-three firefighters from the Riverside County Fire Department and CalFire responded to a house in the 15800 block of Rancho Viejo Drive (map), where the incident was reported at 4:58 a.m., according to an official report.

The report, which was posted on the county Fire Department’s website, said an unidentified female had entered the brick chimney from the roof and was extricated about two hours after rescuers arrived at the scene.

She was transported to a hospital with minor-to-moderate injuries, authorities said.

It was unclear why she had entered had entered the chimney, which was partially dismantled during the rescue operation.

An investigation is ongoing.
