Original post: Homicide detectives are investigating after a teen girl was shot and killed in a residential area of Lancaster Tuesday afternoon.
The shooting was reported around 5:30 p.m. in the 1700 block of West Avenue J15, a street lined with two-story condominiums, according to a news release from Los Angeles County sheriff’s officials.
The 13-year-old victim was taken to the Antelope Valley Hospital, where she was pronounced dead, a deputy told KTLA.
Authorities have not released the girl’s name, but they say they’re searching for her brother, 18-year-old Eddie Alvirez, as a person of interest in the case.
It’s unclear what led up to the fatal gunfire. Video from the scene showed the investigation appeared to be centered inside a residence on the street.
Detectives remained at the scene Tuesday night. No further details were immediately available.
