Officials launched an investigation Monday after two people, a girl and a woman, were fatally shot in a residential area in Carson.
The shooting happened just before 9 p.m. Sunday in the 2300 block of Alvo Avenue, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.
It's unclear if the two female victims were targeted or if the incident was a gang shooting, the Sheriff's Department said. Investigators have not confirmed what the pair was doing in the area, but residents said they were paying respects to the family of a 26-year-old man who died unexpectedly last week.
The two were outside the home when they were shot, the man's family told KTLA. On Monday morning, caution tape surrounded the driveway at the residence.
The victims' relationship with each other and to the man are unclear.
The pair suffered gunshot wounds in the upper torso and were taken to the Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, where they were pronounced dead, according to the Sheriff's Department.
The county coroner has not released their names.
Investigators noted that they received a report of a dark-colored SUV speeding away from the scene, but it's unclear if that vehicle was involved in the shooting. The Sheriff's Department provided no further details about the circumstances surrounding the case.
