A man painted in gold spray paint was arrested Wednesday after allegedly striking three vehicles while under the influence in the Berkeley area, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The 21-year-old hit-and-run driver was first spotted by an off-duty police officer as he hit three vehicles on the eastbound 80 freeway in Berkeley and left the area, the CHP posted on Facebook.
As the officer followed the man, officials received reports that the driver was “gold.”
“Well, the description was certainly correct as the suspect was covered head to toe in gold spray paint,” the CHP stated, adding, “it’s never a dull day for Oakland CHP.”
The steering wheel fell off the man’s vehicle at the Central Avenue off-ramp, forcing him to stop.
He was then arrested on suspicion of hit-and-run and driving under the influence.
The reason for the gold paint, however, was never divulged.
