Officer Alex Kahn of the Hawthorne Police Department received the 42nd Annual South Bay Medal of Valor Thursday for saving a 12-year-old boy’s life in a 2015 shooting.

Kahn killed a man who had fatally shot a mother and was about to shoot her son on April 1, 2015.
