Investigators searched Sunday for a hit-and-run driver who struck and killed a 30-year-old mother of two in Bellflower the previous night.
The victim, identified by family members as Makeda More, was crossing near Lakewood Boulevard and Los Angeles Street (map) around 9:44 p.m. Saturday when she was struck, a Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department news release stated. It was not known if she was in a crosswalk.
Video showed officials performing CPR on More at the scene before she was transported to a hospital where she was pronounced dead.
Her mother-in-law said More had two young children, and pleaded for witnesses to help find the driver.
“If anyone, anyone seen it besides the witness that we have, we need you guys to step forward,” Leslie McNut said tearfully. “She left behind a 9-year-old daughter and 2-year-old son … so we need you guys to help with this, please.”
Family members urged the driver, who was last seen fleeing southbound on Lakewood Boulevard, to turn himself or herself in.
The vehicle was described as a dark-colored Nissan with substantial collision damage to the front bumper and windshield, according to the Sheriff’s Department.
Anyone with information was asked to contact the Sheriff’s Department’s Lakewood Station Traffic Detail at 562-623-3500.
