An investigation was underway early Tuesday into the fatal shooting of an 18-year-old in the Florence-Firestone neighborhood of South Los Angeles, authorities said.

The shooting occurred around 11:10 p.m. Monday in the 9000 block of Holmes Avenue (map), according to a news release from the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

The victim, identified by the Los Angeles coroner's office as an 18-year-old Hispanic man, was rushed to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead, the release stated.

No further details were immediately available.

Investigators have asked anyone with information about the incident to contact the Sheriff's Department's Homicide Bureau 323-890-5500.
