A father was fatally stabbed while attempting to break up a fight involving his son on the Fourth of July and two people were subsequently detained, police said Sunday.
Two people were believed to be stabbed near La Loma Road and Figueroa Street (map) around 8 p.m. on Saturday, Los Angeles Police Department Sgt. T Anderson said.
There were conflicting reporters about whether one or two stabbing victims were hospitalized: According to the Los Angeles Fire Department, two people were taken to a medical center after the incident. An LAPD spokesman said one person was attacked, and they had been transported to a hospital and died.
That man was later identified as a 53-year-old father who was stabbed while trying to break up a fight involving his son, LAPD Officer Jack Richter said.
A perimeter was established Saturday night as police searched for the attackers and both were detained by 10:45 p.m., the LAPD spokesman said.
It was unclear if either of the two arrested were the man’s son.
KTLA’s John A. Moreno, Feven Kiflegiorgis and Steve Bien contributed to this report.
