“I told them you need to call the cops now,” said homeowner’s daughter Vanessa Mendez.

It started as a landscape renovation and turned into a crime scene. Sunday afternoon the homeowners say this tractor uncovered what looked like human remains.

The Mendez family has lived in this home for decades.

They recently bought the home next door from 65-year-old Larry Dominguez who had told them he buried a dog and puppies in the backyard.

But when the Mendez family started renovating and uncovered the remains…

“They came running out, that doesn’t look like a puppy!, said homeowner Phillip Mendez Sr.

Phillip Jr. who was there when the bones were found says he isn’t shocked.

“We joke around who would bury puppies and want to come back for them but now it all makes sense, Phillip Jr. said.

65 year old Larry Dominguez has been booked on suspicion of murder.

Police say Dominguez was living in the home on Hesperian street when  it burned down in 2006, and now they are looking into whether that fire was intentionally set.

But the big focus of the investigation is figuring out who the bones belong to.

The scene is clear but the experts have their work cut out for them.

Next they have to determine whether the skeletal remains belong to a man or woman, who that person is and how they died.
