The shooting occurred at the Savoy Entertainment Center in the 200 block of South La Brea Avenue (map) around 2 a.m., officials at the scene said.

It was unclear what led to the shooting, but police recovered two weapons from the scene and transported both victims to a hospital where one died.

The security guard was said to be in stable condition.

Police would not confirm that the club patron, who died, shot the security guard but said no one was in custody and a search for a gunman was not underway.

South La Brea Avenue was closed between West Manchester Boulevard and East Nutwood Street during the investigation. The roadway was reopened around 8 a.m.
