A Lancaster man who pleaded no contest to killing his 73-year-old mother was sentenced Thursday to 15 years to life in state prison.

Shelton Eugene Bradley, 49, pleaded no contest on June 17 to one count of second-degree murder and agreed to waive any credit for time in jail since his arrest in 2013, a news release from the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office stated.

Rosie Manuel was found naked and unresponsive on Dec. 19, 2013 in her home in the 44000 block of Beach Avenue in Lancaster, according to The AV Times.

She was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

Her youngest son Bradley was arrested the next day and booked on suspicion of murder, the release stated.

Bradley claimed that God told him his mother was a witch and commanded him to kill and burn the witches, according to court testimony.

He strangled his mother and the attempted to place her body inside the kitchen oven, the release stated.

Manuel was found with her upper torso resting on top of an open oven door, with the oven tipped slightly over on top of her, according to prosecutors.
