A rental property tenant shot a landlord after a dispute over an eviction notice in the Hyde Park neighborhood of South Los Angeles on Wednesday afternoon, police said.

The shooting occurred just after 2:30 p.m. in the 4000 block of West 59th Place (map), Los Angeles Police Department Officer Jack Richter said.

The tenant and landlord were arguing over an eviction notice when the tenant shot the landlord, Richter said.

The tenant was arrested and the landlord was taken to a hospital in critical condition, Richter said.

Richter did not provide the gender or age or any other identifying details for either party involved.

The address given for the shooting is in an area of single-family homes.
