Los Angeles police have arrested a man who allegedly lit two people on fire at a South L.A. homeless encampment, officials said.
Phillip Darryl Cole, 54, was taken into custody Saturday afternoon while he was sitting on a bus bench in the area of Florence Avenue and Figueroa Street.
Police believe Cole went up to a homeless encampment near 83rd Street and Vermont Avenue on May 19, doused two people with flammable liquid and lit them on fire.
Both victims were seriously injured, police said.
Investigators believe Cole is a transient who lives in the area where the attack took place.
He was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and his bail was set at $1.27 million , according to the LAPD.
