One person was killed by Los Angeles police officers after allegedly stealing a truck. The suspect was also involved in a shooting in the Wilmington neighborhood of Los Angeles Tuesday morning.

The incident occurred just after 3:30 a.m. as officers followed the truck in the area of E Street and Quay Street, the Los Angeles Police Department tweeted.

The vehicle crashed on E street, prompting the driver to run from the officers, the tweet stated.

The shooting occurred following a brief foot pursuit.

There was no further information about what prompted police to open fire.

“The suspect, only described as a male in his 40s was struck by gunfire and taken into custody,” according to police.

The unidentified suspect was pronounced dead by Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics at the scene.

Handguns believed to belong to the suspect were found at the scene and booked as evidence, police said.

No officers or bystanders were injured in the incident.
