A 20-year-old man has been arrested in Mexico and brought back to the United States to face charges in connection with a series of Orange County robberies, authorities announced Friday.
Ernesto Antonio Guerra, of Pomona, was being held at the Central Men’s Jail in Santa Ana after being taken into custody Wednesday, according to the Orange County Sheriff’s Department.
Guerra and three other suspected gang members allegedly robbed multiple businesses in Santa Ana, Anaheim and Garden Grove in early 2014, the Santa Ana Police Department said.
Surveillance videos and photos of the suspects were released in March of that year. Two of the videos show at least one masked robber armed with a handgun.
Guerra’s accomplices, all residents of Ontario, were in custody as of Aug. 17, according to authorities.
Santa Ana police detectives later received information indicating that Guerra was hiding in the Mexican city of Jalisco, according to Cpl. Anthony Bertagna, spokesman for the department.
The information was shared with the U.S. Marshals Service, whose members worked with Mexican law-enforcement authorities to locate and arrest the suspect, Bertagna said.
