Two days after authorities began searching for a man accused of dousing a Pomona woman with gasoline before setting her on fire, killing her on Christmas, authorities said they caught the suspect.

Clarence Duwell Dear, 51, was apprehended after authorities received a tip that he had boarded a bus in Altadena shortly after 10 a.m. Sunday, according to a news release from the Pomona Police Department.

Officers from the Pasadena Police Department, along with deputies from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, responded and located the bus.

The suspect was taken into custody without incident, the release stated.

Dear was transported to the Pomona Police Department where he was booked on a charge of murder, officials said in the release.

His bail was set at $1 million.

Dear was identified as a suspect on Friday after officers responded to reports in the 1500 block of Cordova Street of a person being set on fire, according to the Pomona Police Department.

Police believed Dear and the victim, identified as 41-year-old Dawn Hensley, were involved in a domestic dispute before the violent incident occurred, preliminary information indicated.

Dear was accused of chasing Hensley, dousing her with gasoline then igniting her, possibly with a cigarette, a police news release stated.

The victim ran from a residence fully engulfed in flames, neighbors said.

The neighbors came to her aid and remained by her side until Los Angeles County fire personnel arrived, but she was later pronounced dead at a local hospital.

Dear’s first court appearance was scheduled to take place in Pomona Superior Court on Tuesday, jail records showed.
