A man was arrested Saturday hours after allegedly attempting to rape a woman while armed with a knife outside a Boyle Heights bar, LAPD officials said.

The 35-year-old woman was leaving the Eastside Luv bar at 1835 East First Street (map) and walking to her vehicle around 3:30 a.m. when the incident occurred, Los Angeles Police Department Sgt. Michael Morisseau said.

The man attempted to rape the woman and produced a knife, the sergeant said.

The woman fought off the man, and possibly bit him.

He fled the scene and police believed he was injured, Morisseau said. The victim was not hurt.

The LAPD’s Hollenbeck Division notified officials at local hospitals about the incident and advised them to be on lookout for an injured man matching the suspect’s description.

When the suspect arrived at Los Angeles County + USC Medical Center, a nurse alerted the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, Morisseau said. Deputies responded and detained the man.

Police investigators located the victim, who positively identified the suspect, the LAPD said.

The man was arrested and was expected to be booked by Saturday evening. His name was not immediately released.
