A 49-year-old man who is suspected of molesting multiple Orange County girls between the age of 5 and 15 over more than two decades appeared in court Monday to face 20 felony counts.
Martin Rodriguez Garcia’s arrest in a monthslong investigation was announced Friday by Huntington Beach police. He was taken into custody in Las Vegas, where he lives.
Police said they are seeking additional victims who may have been abused by the suspect between 1990 and 2015. Most of the crimes for which Garcia was arrested occurred in Huntington Beach, but others may have occurred elsewhere in Orange County, police said in a news release last week.
Garcia was charged with one felony count of sexual intercourse or sodomy with a child 10 years or younger, one felony count of oral copulation or sexual penetration with a child 10 years or younger, 14 felony counts of lewd acts upon a child under 14, and four felony counts of aggravated sexual assault of a child, the Orange County District Attorney’s Office said.
He entered a not guilty plea in court in Santa Ana on Monday afternoon. He hid behind his attorney and was not visible to television news cameras.
If convicted, Garcia faces up to 288 years and eight months to life in state prison.
He is being held on $1 million bail.
Those who think they may have been victimized by Garcia are asked to contact Huntington Beach police Detective Goodspeed at 714-375-5066.
