A Carson man on Tuesday was charged with one count of murder in connection with the fatal shooting of his 18-year-old son during an altercation in their home, prosecutors announced.

The criminal complaint against Anderson Edward Lyiscott, 53, includes a special allegation that he “personally and intentionally discharged a handgun,” resulting in the death of Giovanni Lyiscott, according to a statement from the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.

Anderson Lyiscott is scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday afternoon in Compton Superior Court, the news release said, adding that prosecutors will ask that his bail be set at $3 million.

Early Saturday evening, the father and son got into an argument, after which the teenager locked himself in his room, prosecutors said. His father then allegedly armed himself with a gun, shot at the handle on the door to the bedroom and entered.

The two men “engaged in a struggle” and Anderson Lyiscott’s gun discharged, resulting in the Giovanni Lyiscott being shot in the chest, the DA’s statement said.

First responders were summoned to the scene. The victim was transported to a hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries, according to authorities.

His father was later arrested in connection with the killing. He faces a maximum possible sentence of 50 years to life in state prison if convicted as charged, prosecutors said.
