On Sunday about 9:50 p.m., officers responded to the 7400 block of Sepulveda Boulevard and found a man lying on the ground, with his passenger standing nearby, the LAPD said in a news release Monday.

The victim and passenger, who witnesses told KTLA were a husband and wife, were driving north on Sepulveda Boulevard when a man on a bike slowly rode toward their car. According to police, the victim honked at the suspect on the bike, prompting the suspect to hit the car’s windshield with his fist.

Police said the victim got out of his car and a physical altercation between the two men ensued. The suspect punched the victim, causing him to fall to the ground.

The suspect then jumped into the victim’s vehicle and fled, police reported. The passenger then jumped out of the car as soon as the suspect started to drive away.

Police said the victim grabbed the driver’s side door as the suspect drove away. The suspect proceeded to ram the driver’s side of the vehicle into parked cars, crushing the victim between the cars, at which point the victim let go of the door and fell onto the ground, police said.

The victim, identified only as a 37-year-old man, was taken to a local hospital where he later died from his injuries, police said.

The suspect was described as a Hispanic man, wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt and dark pants, approximately 20-30 years-old, standing about 5 feet 11 inches tall, and weighing between 140-160 pounds.

Anyone with information about the incident was asked to contact Valley Bureau Homicide Det. Steve Castro at 818-374-1925.

Those who wish to remain anonymous can call “Crime Stoppers” by calling 800-222-TIPS (8477).
