The stabbing occurred just after 10:30 p.m. on Thursday at the Underground DTSA nightclub located in the 200 block of Third Street, Santa Ana Police Department Sgt. Michelle Miller confirmed.

The victim — identified as Nathan Joe Alfaro of Westminster — was stabbed in the chest following an altercation inside the club, according to Miller.

The victim managed to make it outside the club, where he collapsed, Miller said.

Emergency crews responded and transported the man to a local hospital, where he later died, according to Miller.

The fight broke out as the second of five punk rock bands scheduled to perform Thursday night was playing.

“It was just one psycho dude who started a mosh pit,” musician Laena Geronimo said.

The man was being very aggressive and violent in the mosh pit when someone tried to intervene, according to Geronimo.

A fight broke out on the stage and then “the guy walked off and then there was just blood all over the floor,” Geronimo said.

The alleged attacker was identified by police as 21-year-old Juan Angel Rivera.

He was expected to be booked on suspicion of murder, according to a news release from the Santa Ana Police Department.

The club was shut down following the stabbing, according to Miller.

Anyone with information was asked to call the Police Department at 714-245-8390 or Orange County Crime Stoppers at 1-855-TIP-OCCS.
